Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady has been the talk of the travel trade since its launch, and as someone who’s cruised since childhood, I couldn’t wait to find out what all the hype was about. With Richard Branson involved, you know it’s going to be innovative - and VV certainly delivers.
Our itinerary, the French Daze & Ibiza Nights Fly Cruise from Barcelona, was just as exciting as life on board.
The cruise began in vibrant Barcelona, where the energy of Las Ramblas and Gaudi’s stunning architecture set the tone perfectly. From there, we explored the chic streets of Marseille, soaked up the glitz of Cannes, and enjoyed the charm of Ajaccio in Corsica, Napoleon’s birthplace.
Each stop was an adventure, with enjoyable excursions to check out the local culture - or just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
And then there was Ibiza, our final stop - a full day to explore everything from its beautiful beaches to its buzzing nightlife. Whether you’re strolling the old town or dancing till dawn, there’s something undeniably magnetic about this island.
Back on board, the Scarlet Lady felt like a haven of indulgence and modernity. Forget traditional cruising with professional photographers snapping away or endless buffets. Virgin Voyages is a fresh take on the experience: luxurious, lively and adults-only.
It’s unlike any other cruise line. The ships aren’t the massive, mainstream variety with endless attractions, nor are they the tiny, ultra-luxury type - they sit comfortably in between.
From hammocks on the balcony to the 20+ eateries (think sushi bars, taco shacks and dedicated bakeries), dining was a major highlight. The Dock area, with its relaxed vibe and delicious tapas, quickly became my favourite spot to chill and take in the sea breeze.
Entertainment was equally impressive - comedy clubs, live music and festival-style stage acts meant there was always something happening. Fitness fans will love the options too, from bungee classes to 80's aerobics workouts.
Virgin Voyages is perfect for those who love luxury all-inclusives but want to try something different. With Wi-Fi, soft drinks, tips and dining all included, it’s easy to budget, and adding a bar tab pre-sailing keeps things simple.
And if you’re feeling fancy, you can push the boat out with a Rockstar Suite for exclusive access to Richard’s private lounge and free-flowing Moët!
