Gill’s Blog: My surprise short break in Seville

Nothing quite excites me more than a luxury hotel - a fact my other half knows well - and he came up trumps with a fabulous recent surprise weekend away to celebrate a special anniversary.

Gill in Seville has a nice ring to it and the largest city in Andalusia provided us with a great authentic Spanish experience that I can highly recommend for a short break.

We flew early on a Friday morning and arrived at our beautiful hotel by midday. The Palacio Villapanés is a stunning 18th-century palace and part of the “Small Luxury Hotels of the World” collection.

It is in a terrific location, central to everything; and making it extra special, we were fortunate to stay in their magnificent Marques suite.

The cultural and architectural heritage of Spain is visible wherever you go in Seville. Stunning palatial houses, Roman ruins, royal palaces, cathedrals and churches, plus vibrant neighbourhoods resplendent with history, tradition, colour and architectural beauty.

We spent the weekend wandering around the city, jumping on bus tours, and eating in wonderful restaurants.

Our highlights and must-sees:

  • Seville Cathedral

  • La Giralda

  • The Alcázar of Seville

  • General Archive of the Indies

  • The Santa Cruz district

  • Maria Luisa Park

  • Casa de Pilatos

  • Plaza de España

  • Plaza de Toros

  • Torre del Oro

And the pick of the restaurants we ate at were Cañabota Restaurant and Ispal.

Direct flights to Seville from several UK airports make it extremely easy to get here and a perfect destination for a quality city break.

Please give me a buzz to arrange yours.
